The future greats of the clay shooting circuit will go head-to-head at the British Schools & Young Shots Championship, which comes to Atkin, Grant & Lang shooting ground on Saturday 4 May 2019.

The UK’s national championships for under 18s, it will see the UK’s finest young shots competing over three courses of varying difficulties – Red, Blue and Black – and representing their school nationally.

Prizes will be on offer for the individual winners on all three courses, as well as the top A, B and under-14 teams. The Ladies, Cadets, Scouts, parent and child, and old pupils championships will all return too.

Potential stars

The British Schools & Young Shots Championship has become renowned as a hotbed of young talent in the clay shooting world. Amber Hill and Ben Llewellin are among those who have gone on to achieve international glory. Brody Woollard, Ronnie Green and Alfie Tibbles are the three most recent winners of the High Gun prize.

This year, it will be boosted by the reputation and knowhow of Atkin, Grant & Lang, which has hosted blue-riband events including the English Open Sporting, CPSA Premier League Final and British Side By Side Championship.

AGL’s director, Charlie Stewart-Wood, said: “We are delighted to be able to host such an important competition that has always been a stepping stone for the future champions of our sport. We have some great plans for all three courses to test and entertain all levels of shooter.”

Clay Shooting editor James Marchington added: “The British Schools & Young Shots Championships are an event I always looked forward to during the number of years I attended as a photographer and reporter, so it’s thrilling to be part of the organising team and see it all come together. It’s one of our missions at Clay Shooting to support young clay shooters, and I know we’ll be welcoming the best of them at Atkin Grant & Lang on 4 May. Having spoken to the AGL team, I’m confident we’ll be putting on an event that will challenge and reward young shots in equal measure, and I can’t wait to see it unfold.”
