The clay season has arrived, and it brings with it an air of anticipation and excitement for the potential challenges and achievements that may lie ahead.

The 2019 shooting calendar is busy, with dates and locations for the world’s largest and most prestigious Sporting clays competitions now set, several of which are being held in the UK and Ireland.

One of the 2019 Sporting highlights is set to be The 5th ICTSF World English Sporting Championships, held for the first time in Ireland, on 3-6 July on The Devenish Lands at Dowth Hall, Co. Meath.

This unique venue encompasses over 500 acres of rolling hills, open green pastures, river valleys and woodlands, and has never been shot before. This is such an impressive location that creating the launch video for the event was top priority. Filmed from a birds-eye perspective, it showcases the grounds perfectly and has reached 118k people to date… wow!

Ask any shooter what the key ingredient of a great shoot is; they tell you that it’s the targets. And it doesn’t get much better than targets set by legendary Richard Faulds MBE, the current ICTSF World Champion, 21 times world title holder in Sporting and Fitasc, and Olympic Gold Medallist.

As the official course designer, Faulds will set the 200-target, two day main event, as well as the 100-target Sportrap and a 100-bird English Sporting Preliminary. Faulds is renowned in the Sporting community for setting world class targets and you can rest assured that the ICTSF WESP 2019 will be no exception.

The scope and topography of the WESP site location is vast, making it the perfect canvas for this master shooter to create a competition that will be worthy of the World English Sporting title.

The course plans are well underway, entries are open and Sporting shooters from across the globe are securing their places for the ICTSF WESP Championship event. Entries have been open since early November 2018; the Friday and Saturday rotations of the 200 target main event sold out rapidly, leaving the Wednesday and Thursday rotations as the remaining option for bookings.

The Sportrap and Preliminary events are also booking out at speed, with very limited space available for the latter half of the week. At the time of writing, shooters from 14 countries – England, USA, Northern Ireland, Australia, Zimbabwe, Canada, Scotland, France, Russia, Wales, New Zealand, South Africa, Poland and Ireland – will be competing, and there’s room for more…

With such a large contingent of international competitors making the trip to Ireland, the correct permits and firearm licences are of course required by law.

The Irish Clay Target Shooting Association have worked with An Garda Síochána (Irish law enforcement) to streamline and simplify the firearm permit process, so it will be easy to apply and to process the paperwork required to travel to this event from overseas.

Upon arrival to the Emerald Isle, getting to the ICTSF WESP event couldn’t be more straightforward. The venue is just 25 minutes from Dublin Airport, 35 minutes from Dublin Port and 5 minutes from the M1 motorway, which connects Northern Ireland with the South. Whether you travel by plane, boat, car or helicopter – on your own or with friends and family – the venue is easily accessible and surrounded by ample accommodation and tourist areas, all within a 20-mile radius.

The ICTSF WESP 2019 team are busy working to ensure an outstanding, world class experience for every competitor, spectator, vendor, supplier and staff member.

The Trade Village is set to include stands from all the major brands in the shooting industry, with the addition of a select range of Irish vendors. Event sponsors Eley Hawk will be selling cartridges onsite, with other brands also available from individual vendors.

The food will be predominantly locally sourced, artisanal and delicious, chosen from an extensive group of suppliers who can cater for all dietary needs. The essentials of tea, coffee and a bar for after the shooting will also be available onsite.

The competition entry fee for the 200-bird main event is €145; the 100-bird preliminary and the 100-bird Sportrap are €60 each. The overall high gun and world champion of the 5th ICTSF World English Sporting Championships will receive a guaranteed prize sum of €10,000.

This impressive purse is made up of €5,000 guaranteed from the entries and a further €5,000 that has been kindly provided by the event’s main sponsor Devenish Nutrition Limited.

Ireland, the land of a thousand welcomes, looks forward to you joining us for The 5th ICTSF World English Sporting Championships. Get ready to compete, to explore and to enjoy.
