As one of the UK’s best shooting grounds, Orston will change hands soon as owner Charlie Denoon is retiring: “I’m 65 this year, it’s a big job and I’m ready for a break after 21 fantastic years.”
The ground is hitting the open market with a guide price of £1.9million and in that price you will purchase a successful business set on 53 acres that has plenty of space for Sportrap, Skeet, Sporting, FITASC, DTL and Universal Trench disciplines, as well as a café and shop. A local farmer also rents 15 acres of additional land but it didn’t start out as big as it is today, Charlie said: “It came in parts. I bought six acres in 1994 and there were two shooting grounds side-by-side. I ended up eventually buying both, so the ground now stands at over 53 acres.”
The ground has planning permission to stay open seven days a week but the ground is open for events on across three days. Charlie said: “We’ve had some great charity shoots for the Rotary Club and the Air Ambulance – they’ve been great days. The England Team selection shoots are also really exciting. I will definitely continue to shoot – my partner is also a shooter so we couldn’t give up altogether, maybe we’ll have a bit a bit of a break first but we’ll be back.”
