Top of the shots

Only the world’s top shooters were invited to compete in the ISSF World Cup Final and some four GB shooters made the cut

The United Arab Emirates hosted the ISSF World Cup Final that kicked-off on the last day of September and GB’s top shots were there to compete alongside the world’s best.
Only the top shotgun shooters of the world were eligible to participate in the event: the reigning world champions, the 2010 ISSF World Cup Final title defenders, and the top eight World Cup competitors selected throughout this year’s four ISSF world cup events in Sydney (AUS), Conception (CHI), Beijing (CHN) and Maribor (SLO).

Just 59 competitors from 24 countries made the trip to the layouts in Al Ain to contest the five ISSF Cups up for grabs across the five Olympic events.

Arguably our strongest international event, Double Trap saw both Peter Wilson and Richard Faulds contesting the trophy. Richard’s 46, 44, 43 put him 13th on count back, meanwhile Peter’s 47, 43, 46 gave him a place in the final after a shoot-off. India’s Ronjan Sodhi took top honours on 187 followed by China’s Binyuan Hu after a shoot-off. Peter took sixth place on 178 – a solid end to a fantastic season for the 24-year-old Olympic hopeful.

Elena Allen was just four targets off a final place in the women’s Skeet as she finished on 62 and Aaron Heading shot a fantastic round of 114 to miss the final by just two targets to finish eighth.

With the 2011 ISSF season drawn to a close, thoughts of our Olympic competitors will now be turning to training for the 2012 London Olympics countdown.
