Club Call: Mickley Hall

The ground currently has a Sporting layout but has plans to build a DTL layout in the near future. Ground manager, Scott Barnett said ”All its layouts are undercover and linked by stone paths, meaning that even in the rain shooters can wear shooting glasses without having to look through spots on their lenses and can wait their turn in the dry.”

The ground is still in its early stages of developments but plans to plant over 1,000 trees will take place at the end of this year and landscaping will continue through to the next season. Currently the clubhouse is a small cabin but construction on a new clubhouse will begin in the New Year; Scott added: “never mind the size, there is always a free brew and cakes on offer, and sometimes, if my Nan’s been busy, sausage rolls.”

Scott said: “we have succeeded in making it a friendly competition that has a relaxed atmosphere”. Practice facilities are available on Saturdays too and an 80-bird Sporting competition take place every first, third and fifth Sunday of the month.

The ground also offers coaching and tuition from novices up to AA shooters. All instruction is done by British and English team members and is available in Sporting, DTL and Double Trap – prices start at £25 per hour plus clays and cartridges.

Scott concluded: “We are a friendly, new ground that has big plans for the future near and far. The doors are always open and we welcome individuals and groups for lessons by appointment all week.”

Yes nice shooting ground to shoot at, nice undercover shooting both Scott and his Dad John are both excelent shooters as well as brilliant instructors. I have had some lessons with John and was really good. They are really working hard to get it developed further and it is in a lovely setting just outside Nantwich in rural Cheshire

Nice to see a shooting ground going forward and especially in Cheshire where we dont have that many shooting grounds.

Great ground, with 10 stands (20 + targets) and targets that are changed all the time, there is now a 50 birds comp (thursdays) with the best 5 shooters from each class going forward to a final in Sept to win a gun. Also a Saturday 100 bird comp starting soon in June. Great practise ground for the local CPSA comps. Also great priced cartridges. John and Scott are always on hand for instruction or just some help, be it that Battue or the gun mount that you are struggling with!
