Youth ban rumour quashed

Olympic organiser LOCOG has quashed rumours that youngsters are to be banned from watching shooting sports under its ticket giveaway scheme.

The organisation issued a statement insisting the rumour is not true and its Ticketshare scheme does include shooting sports events.

Rumours were rife that London Mayor Boris Johnson intended to ban youngsters as part of a bid to cut teenage gun and knife crime and amid fears there would be a backlash from the anti-gun lobby.

The LOCOG statement says: “Shooting tickets are included in the Ticketshare programme. We planned to issue the tickets where the demand was greatest; our initial consultation with schools suggested that there wasn’t a demand for shooting tickets. However, if schools request shooting tickets, we will provide them, subject to availability.”
