Day one of the Clay Shooting Classic Sporting kicked off with a great showing of shooters, including a number of people representing the Army, Navy, RAF, Police and the Prison.
The Services Classic was closely fought, especially between the Police and the RAF, but Julian Williams, Simon Fenner and Steve Smith put together big scores to secure the top team for the Police.
Julian’s 132 did enough to win the Services Classic High Gun trophy and 250 Eley Hawk cartridges.
In the main competition, all eyes were on the top shots, which included Nick Hendrick, George Digweed and Chris Biddlecombe. But big scores from Wayne Martin and Ian Schwier showed that an event as popular as the Classic Sporting isn’t a walkover.
George and Chris ultimately compiled the biggest scores and tied on 139, but many reports said that a bigger score was coming. With a long list of top shooters booked on later in the week, it is all to play for.
