TESTED: Beretta 690 Competition – Introducing the Black Edition

While this Beretta’s stock dimensions, which are 35/55mm drop-at-comb and heel, needed some revision to meet my requirements, a suitable comb raiser solved the problem. As to choke constrictions the set of five long Optima HP chokes range from what equates to Cylinder up to ¾ are more than adequate to deal with any Sporting targets you are likely to encounter.

053-055 Vic Gun Test_Rev4HH.inddThe 690’s greatest virtue is its excellent balance, provided by its substantial action body, around which the rest of the gun pivots. The barrels are not particularly light, nor should they be, but the heft the action provides between the hands ensures it handles quickly enough. With only having to adjust the stock dimensions slightly, which most shooters would not require, I could consistently tackle any kind of Sporting layout with a reasonable degree of confidence. This, I am quite sure, will apply to the vast number of shooters who are going to buy the 690. It’s a user-friendly gun because its excellent specifications in all departments make it so.
