TESTED: Beretta 690 Competition – Introducing the Black Edition

The 690’s stock is along these lines and combines an open grip with a slim tapered comb that locates snugly under the cheekbone. This combines to provide a fast and comfortable gun mount, which is further assisted by one of Beretta’s rounded, but not too soft, rubber recoil pads. The forend is to Beretta’s slim beavertail shape, which, in my view, is superior to the now hackneyed Schnabel shape, in appearance and the hold it provides.

Ribs are now usually the main topic of conversation when it comes to barrels, however, the 690 has a conventional flat rib IMG_9932that tapers from 10mm at the breech face to 7mm at the muzzle ends and combines an excellent matt finish and represents a perfect point of reference without being a distraction. The tubes are bored at 18.6mm and will digest plastic and fibre wad cartridges effectively. The rib and the barrels share the same matt-black finish with the action body, and with two extended chokes in situ the total weight is 1.531kg.
