Paul Simpson wins the Sporting English Open

With a pack of top shooters chasing youngster Taylor Hedgecock’s fantastic 113ex-120 from the opening day of the English Open, Paul Simpson used his experience in the shoot-off to overcome a one-clay deficit and pick up the title for the second time.

Paul hit 112 in the main competition and started the final well. While he struggled slightly in the middle section of the shoot-off, dropping seven out of 16 at one point, he then closed out the last eight targets perfectly to secure victory.

Phillip Thorrold matched Paul in the qualifying period with 112, but only managed 22 in the final to finished Runner Up, while Taylor finished Third Overall and won Juniors. Georgia Moule won the Ladies event, while Carl Bloxham did enough to beat Steve Brightwell, as the two shot in the final shoot-off, to win Veterans. Colts was claimed by Thomas Woodcock, while the Disabled categories were won by Adrian Last in the Sitting event, and Jamie Gutteridge in the Standing.
