Among Premiership footballers and international sports stars, Joy Hirons was awarded the Sportswoman of the Year award at the regional newspaper’s annual ceremony.
Joy had one of the best years of her career in 2015, going undefeated at the major English Skeet competitions throughout the year, which also earned her a nod in Clay Shooting magazine’s Clay Shooters of the Year list.

Joy said: “I am so proud that I won. It’s a complete shock but absolutely amazing. The whole room was full of TV celebrities and sporting legends, and I was proud to represent clay shooting on such a public platform alongside the mainstream sports.”
One of the mainstream sports stars was England striker Jamie Vardy, who won the Sportsman of the Year at the ceremony in Leicester Tigers stadium last weekend.
