ISSF recommends removing Double Trap

The ISSF Ad-Hoc Committee met in Munich yesterday and has recommended replacing Double Trap with a Mixed Gender Trap Team event.

The aim of the committee was to make recommendations for achieving gender equality in response to the International Olympic Committee’s agenda by Tokyo 2020. This could mean that unlike previous thoughts, Double Trap might be on the chopping block before the next Olympic Games arrives – the press release said: “The IOC will make a final decision on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Program in mid-2017.”

Double Trap is not the only shooting discipline under threat, as the 50m Rifle Prone Men competition and the 50m Pistol Men event might be replaced by 10m Air Rifle Mixed Gender Team and 10m Air Pistol Mixed Gender Team categories, respectively.

The Ad-Hoc Committee will reconvene in January and make a final decision on what to recommend to the IOC by the end of February 2017. See the full press release here.
