Guy Franklin beats Stuart Rudling at Compak English Open

Guy Franklin won the Compak English Open at Southdown on 26 March.

Stuart Rudling and Guy Franklin performed well and didn’t hit fewer than 24 on any round. A shoot-off would be required to decide High Gun and Runner Up, as well as who would take third place, but James Attwood couldn’t remain at the ground, so the bronze medal went to Scott Barnett.

Stuart and Guy shot a round of 25 but each shooter dropped one to finish on 24 and they went to sudden-death, which Guy won 5-4.

In the Ladies category, Cheryl Hall showed why she has been the only person to pick up the Compak English Open trophy in the event’s history. She shot no clean rounds, but her score didn’t dip below 21 at any stage for a total of 89.

Junior Ronnie Green led his category comfortably, winning by two clays for a total of 94. The Veterans saw a dead heat across the board with Glenn Hunt, Steve Nutbeam and Martin Doughty all finishing on 92. And John Bidwell won Super Veterans gold at the Compak English Open for the second time in its five-year history.
