Clay Shooting's expert coach teaches first-timer to score straight

Top coaching hit the spot for a youngster who smashed a 100-straight at his first competition.

Clay Shooting magazine’s resident shooting coach and top shot Philip Thorrold has been coaching a Russian youngster who came to the UK for some first-class coaching – and that’s just what he got.

After a top tip from Philip, 18-year-old Dima Polegeshko hit the coveted straight at his first registered competition, a 100-bird at the notoriously tricky Northampton Gun Club.
Philip said one of the first things he noticed when watching the youngster shoot was that he was holding his gun slightly too high, so Philip got Dima to apply a different technique to that particular target. After some practice it was firmly planted in Dima’s sight picture memory and the next step was to shoot a competition. Northampton was chosen as it was holding the Northampton DTL County Championships.

Phillip told us: “All those who have been there to shoot DTL will know that it is not the easiest ground to shoot a 100-straight. But Dima proved otherwise – not bad for your first registered competition!

“I know a lot of shooters and especially some DTL shooters who would love to shoot 100-straight.”
