Clay Shooting 160 – the final issue on sale now

The final edition of Clay Shooting Magazine is on sale NOW

Clay Shooting Magazine editor James Marchington comments on the final edition of the magazine:

This issue marks the end of an era, both for me and for this magazine. This is the last issue of Clay Shooting that will be published as a standalone magazine. From next month we are combining with the excellent Sporting Gun magazine – where you can follow your favourite writers and regular features that are transferring across.

Contributors such as Matt Hance, Rhys Plum, Becky McKenzie, Jasper Fellows and James Simon will be appearing in Sporting Gun each month, with clay shooting features including clay gun and cartridge tests, articles on clay shooting technique, reviews of clay grounds, and much more.

Sporting Gun editor Matt Clark is an old friend and colleague, and I know
he will do an excellent job of catering for dedicated clay shooters as well as the many Clay Shooting readers who also enjoy game and rough shooting, pigeon shooting and the like.

If you have a subscription to Clay Shooting then you needn’t do anything; it will automatically switch to Sporting Gun and your next issue will be Sporting Gun’s June 2021 issue, out on 4 May. Our subscriptions department will be writing to confirm the details. If you have a regular order with your local newsagent, then you’ll need to let them know you’re switching to Sporting Gun.

As for me, well I’m moving on after three happy years editing this magazine. I’ve had a long association with Clay Shooting magazine, going back to the early 90s when it was published by Paul Dobson, before being bought by Mike Brunton – who sadly passed away recently.

I’m sad that the magazine will no longer appear on the newsstands, but the publishers assure me they did everything possible and it simply wasn’t viable as a standalone title.

So before I sign off for the last time, I’d like to thank each and every one of you for your loyalty and enthusiasm, for the many lovely comments I’ve received over the past three years, and the support of my excellent band of contributors.

Now that the lockdown is easing, get out there and make sure to support your local shooting ground, gun shop, instructors, coaches and the rest. Smash some clays and have fun – and I look forward to seeing you out and about in the coming months!
