British Shooting won’t pursue ISSF EGM

Since the ISSF has chosen to drop Double Trap and other disciplines from the Olympics, shooting’s governing bodies from various countries have been calling for an Extraordinary General Assembly to discuss the change.

Pakistan, Italy, Canada and the BICTSF have written requests to the ISSF, but British Shooting has released a statement on its website saying that “British Shooting will not be joining calls for an EGM.”

The ISSF called the requests “ill-advised and dangerous for the shooting sport.” The disciplines will not be removed from the World Championships later this year, nor will the ISSF remove them from the World Cup rota. However, as Double Trap will no longer be an Olympic event, many shooters are expected to switch disciplines, which will likely result in a greater decrease in numbers.

British Shooting stated that it will work with the ISSF and Britain’s own athletes to ensure the country is well placed to succeed in the new Olympic programme.
