Amber supports youth movement

Amber Hill has expressed support for shooting in Northern Ireland to have a lower minimum age.

In Northern Ireland, the minimum age of a young person without a certificate using a shotgun under supervision is 18. The young Skeet shooter met the country’s first minister and the Assembly’s All-Party Group on Country Sports yesterday to support a campaign that would lower the age limit to 10.

She said: “Being taught to shoot from a young age was the foundation of my success, and I believe young people in Northern Ireland deserve the same opportunity.”

BASC NI director, Tommy Mayne said: “Young people are the lifeblood of our sport, and Amber Hill is a prime example of the success and benefits shooting can provide. It is important that Northern Ireland firearms legislation is changed to allow young people to be taught safety, responsibility and respect for firearms at an early age.”
