Denis died of cancer in 2003 and his son Matt has organised memorial competitions for several years, with all proceeds raised going to Cancer Research UK.

Kevin, now the British Olympic head coach, has never won the event before so it made the 10th anniversary rather poignant for the Olympic Trap shooter. He said, “To be honest, I’ve found it hard to compete in previous years for obvious reasons, and though I’ve won some big competitions before I’m not much of a DTL shooter, so this was a very special win for me.

Sponsors included Ladds Guns, Anglo Italian Arms and Jethro, all of which donated prizes such as gunslips and gear and 3,000 clays. There was also cash prizes for winners. The shoot raised over £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.
