would be a sensible option. The other solution is a custom made stock from the manufacturer, which Edgar Brothers can arrange with a delivery time of 4-6 weeks.
The forend wood is a traditional beavertail shape with the usual finger grooves. I like this configuration as I can hold it lightly with my fingers rather than laying it across my palm.
Shooting impressions
If the Zoli feels like it has more weight between the hands than similar guns, it’s because the action body is just a little bit heavier, but by no more than about two ounces. No bad thing, when we must take into consideration it has to balance appropriately with a choice of barrel lengths. In the case of my test gun, this was 75cm (29.5in) weighing 1.572kg (3lb 7.4oz). The Zoli’s all-up weight was 3.676kg (8lb 10oz).
On the pattern plate first, and then some DTL targets just to accustom myself to where the gun was printing its pattern, I found it to be about 70/30 per cent above and below the point-of-aim. Having adjusted to a lower comb height than is my preference I started to break some Universal Trap targets convincingly.
Triggers were suitably crisp, but balancing on the trunnions I was surprised to find the Zoli wasn’t as fast handling as I expected it to be. The gun’s steady handling, together with multichokes in both barrels, suggests to me the Z-Extra Trap is rather more versatile than some other guns of this type. This, combined with competitive pricing, makes this Italian over-and-under a serious contender in the high-end target gun market.
