Leah Southall’s hectic schedule

Mock exams, a competition at Fauxdegla and helping out sponsors at the British Shooting Show. Leah Southall’s schedule’s been pretty busy of late…

Neither snow nor wind nor mock exams could keep Leah from the shoot at Fauxdegla

There wasn’t much shooting for me in February because I had more mock exams, which took up most of my time. I did manage to enter a competition at Fauxdegla Shooting Ground.

I thought this would be a good way to clear my head. I shot reasonably well despite the wind, which was changing the height of the targets, and the changing light conditions.

Nobody managed to break all their targets that day, which shows how tough it was. It was a pleasure to shoot with Mike Faux and was also a welcome opportunity to catch up with Debbie Faux.

The highlight of the month was attending the British Shooting Show. On the Saturday, I was helping on the Eley Hawk stand. Eley have produced a new biodegradable wad, the EcoWad, which dissolves in water within a couple of days at most.

The wad is a step in the right direction if we want to support the environment and still enjoy shooting. It’s been launched in clay and game cartridges in the VIP Steel range.

I also visited CENS/PureTone to have an impression taken of my ears for my new hearing protection. CENS is my new sponsor for the 2019 season, and I am incredibly thankful for its support.

Having good hearing protection is vital, and the new CENS Digital ProFlex DX5 plugs are great. You can choose your own colours, and they come with loads of brilliant features.

On the Sunday I was helping on the Laporte/CPC stand alongside some of the other sponsored shooters: Lucas Hyde, Elise Dixon, Maddie Purser, Alfie Tibbles and Laura Shinn.

This is my third year being sponsored by this fantastic company, which supplies me with the clays I need to train, and a smart clothing line as well. It was great to see so many of Laporte’s sponsored shooters attending the show because, as my motto goes, ‘Give help back to those who you receive help from’. It was lovely to catch up with Gaylia Fallon and Jean Michel Laporte.

I also found time to visit the MacWet Gloves and GMK/Beretta stands. It was a busy weekend, but fun.
