With an estimated prize fund of $600,000 being split between 70 top shooters, including $140,000 for the top male athlete and $35,000 for the Lady High Gun, the United Arab Emirates is making a significant move toward the Sporting disciplines.

There is no entry cost but competitors have to pay a $350 registration fee that will be refunded upon arrival. The event is a “FITASC type shooting championship” taking place from 28 February-5 March.

It is being set up by former Olympic champion Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Hasher Al Maktoum, who also supported Peter Wilson in his London 2012 campaign. He aims to increase the number of UAE Sporting participants from “less than 25”, to improve the level of shooting talent in all disciplines. Sheikh Ahmed said: “A lot of Olympic shooters started with Sporting, which improves all kinds of talent and skills and then they specialise in one of the Olympic disciplines.”

More information can be found on the official Nad Al Sheba website.

How will this work beacause you cannot currently own a gun or travel to the UAE with a gun surely all competitors will not be able to borrow a gun from the club it is being held at

      Hi Elliott,

From looking at the website, which has a good FAQ section, the organisers say the following:
“Once you provide us the Arrival details upon registration, we shall make arrangement of [bringing your gun with you] at our Airport. You shall bring the same Gun type which you have mentioned on registration form.”

Contact the organisers for further support at https://nadalshebawsc.ae
