Britain’s emergency services deal with a lot more than a spot of rain during their day-to-day jobs, which came in handy for the opening day of the Clay Shooting Classic at Windrush Shooting Ground today in Gloucestershire.
Conditions switched between light rain and heavy rain but good shooting prevailed for most with some great talent on show. In particular, Simon Fenner shot superbly to pick up an array of awards including Police High Gun and overall High Gun with his score of 122, which also contributed toward the winning Services Team and the winning Club Team.
The overall Runner Up was Kevin Johnston who hit 117 on what all competitors credited as a tough course, and Richard Weller finished third after scoring 112ex-150.
Three Legs Gun Club won the Club Team Classic prize of a Promatic Trap worth £1,200, and the Services team took home 1,250 Gamebore White Gold cartridges.
This year’s Services Classic saw a rise in entries to see almost 130 shooters compete, in part due to the lower entry cost and the quality of targets that the Clay Shooting Company is renowned for throwing.

A mixture of persistent rain and tough targets frustrated shooters but everyone enjoyed the competition
