Clay Shooting Classic scores: final

Mark Winser convincingly won the 2014 Clay Shooting Classic for the second consecutive year.

IMG_1200After a brilliant morning score of 74 on the 11am rotation on Saturday’s Blue course, it was his to lose, and he dropped just five targets on the Red course to claim the top prize of a Zoli Z-Extra shotgun and 1,000 Gamebore cartridges with 144ex-150.

George Digweed arrived for the 11am rotation after landing in the UK at 1.30am on Saturday morning with much of his kit missing from the trip abroad, but he kept focused to hit 70 targets thrown from the Promatic traps in the morning and then a further 68 in the afternoon. Sam Green also shot the Blue course on Saturday morning to finish on 67, then hit 71 in the afternoon. Their scores of 138ex-150 meant Nick Hendrick would have to face them for a shoot-off for the Runner Up prize of a Zoli Kronos.

On three tough stands, the top-class shooters were pitted against each other. Nick Hendrick straighted the first and maintained that lead through the 30 target to finish with 26 and take the Runner Up shotgun along with 625 Gamebore cartridges.

David Gooding performed well in AA-class to score 134ex-150 and win cartridges, a Hatsan Escort Xtreme, along with an Edgar Brothers goody bag worth £250. This prize was also presented to the winners of the other classes, including Wayne Martin in A on a strong 131, young George Townsend in B-class on an impressive 127 – 13 targets ahead of his nearest competitor – and Nigel Rock in C-class on 115.

Becky McKenzie proved her worth as brand ambassador for main sponsor Zoli to win the Ladies category and claim 500 cartridges and a Hatsan 20-bore. The same prize pot went to Junior winner Jon Freeman, Veteran Steve Brightwell and the wunderkind George Townsend once again in Colts.

A big thank you goes to all the main sponsors, and traders for supporting the tented village. Most importantly, Clay Shooting magazine would like to thank the shooters who made this a bigger and better event than ever. We look forward to seeing many of you at the Troy Foods Clay Shooting Classic FITASC on 24-27 July.
