Sunny straights at North Ayrshire

The fifth shoot of the DTL winter series at North Ayrshire Shooting Ground saw a close competition intensified by calm, bright weather. Bryan Hutchison of Lanarkshire was High Gun with 100/296 after a tense contest that saw four shooters finish on 100-straight. In the closing rounds Bryan knew what he was up against.

Clay Shooting caught up with him to find out how he felt under such pressure: “Knowing how good some of the competitors are, I tried to keep my head down and focused on the targets. As part of the last squad out, I was aware of other people still being at the clay ground and watching me. The trick is to keep going and not think about anyone else.”

Alan Brown, Raymond Gargaro and Kenny Williams were joint Runners Up, with Alan and Kenny on 100/295 and Raymond on 99/295.

Tom Young, owner of the ground, said the good scores were not unexpected given the weather conditions. Thirty-three shooters was a typical average for the winter season, with numbers often ranging from 30 to 40. North Ayrshire Shooting Ground’s DTL winter series is sponsored by Hunter Wellies, and the overall winner will receive a Tag Heuer luxury watch worth £2,500. With several shoots in the winter series left to go, there’s still plenty of time for the top bracket to change.
