Shoot sets sights on £100K target for children’s hospice

A popular annual clay pigeon shoot is returning to Braintree in Essex for the sixth year on Tuesday 4th June.

The event is raising money for Little Havens Hospice – the only place in Essex dedicated to caring for babies, children and teenagers with life-limiting illnesses.

The Little Havens Clay Pigeon Shoot is a 60-clay competition held at The Fennes Shooting School. The event also includes two optional pay challenge stands on the course, one of which is a ten-clay pool shoot challenge and a free go for this is included in the entrance fee.

The day begins at 9.00am with breakfast in the Shoot Hall and there are mid-morning refreshments for the competitors. Each entrant will be given a gift and there will be a reception and delicious three course lunch in The Manor House as well as the prize giving, a raffle and an auction. The day finishes at 4.30pm.

It costs £175 per person to take part – cartridges are included and guns and tuition can be provided as the event is open to both novice and experienced shooters.  The competition is for teams of four but individual entry is welcome as participants can be placed in a team. Overall 80 people competed last year.

Since it first began in 2014, the shoot has raised an impressive £80,000 for the charity to help it to continue supporting families from across Essex when they have been told that there is no cure for their child’s illness. Little Havens helps to make the journey as comfortable as possible by controlling pain and medication and offering respite and care, for free and for as long as it is needed.

Mandy Beglan, who organises the event, is delighted. She explained: “We are so grateful to the shooting community in Essex who have made the Little Havens Clay Pigeon Shoot such a successful annual event and raised so much money. Little Havens needs to raise over £46,000 each week to be there for every family that needs its care – so this has made such a big difference to so many people.

“It would be great if this year we could bring the grand total up to £100,000. Please join us for a great day’s shooting while raising money for a fantastic cause.”
