New gear at IWA trade show

It’s hard to believe that IWA was already almost a month ago, but it was, and it’s been the talk of the gun trade ever since. So in case you’ve missed any news, we have something for you on the latest gear that was on show at IWA 2019.

The UK gun trade was out in force at the 46th annual IWA Outdoor Classics exhibition in Germany from 8 to 11 March. It’s the leading European trade show for hunting, shooting and outdoor equipment. This year’s event attracted around 46,000 visitors to see the 1,622 exhibitors from 60 countries.

Among them was Eley Hawk, who were showing their new biodegradable cup wad, launched at the recent British Shooting Show. The wad has exciting potential to provide plastic wad-like performance but without the environmental concerns of leaving plastic in the countryside.

It is entirely made of soluble organic ingredients that dissolve in water within 24 hours – or less if the water is moving effectively adding compost and nutrients to the soil, and leaving no trace in the environment after three months.

The new Pro Eco Wad has been introduced into Eley’s VIP Steel loads, where it’s attracting much interest from wildfowlers in the 32g ‘game’ load. There is also a 28g steel shot load for clay shooting expected to sell for around £280-£295 per thousand.

As always, IWA was a great opportunity to see sumptuous gear

Among other familiar names exhibiting at the show were Browning, displaying the new laminated stock B525 O/U, and Teague Precision Chokes, whose new Titanium choke tubes are 40 per cent lighter than the original stainless steel chokes, providing the same patterning performance while improving the balance and handling of the gun.

Clay Shooting’s technical expert, Richard Atkins, was scouring the show for items of interest by day, and sampling the culinary delights of Nuremberg by night.

His full report is coming soon, so make sure you keep up to date with all the latest developments!
