For the first time this winter Bywell Shooting Ground ran two winter leagues – and Ian Mullarkey won both.

There was lots of support and competition over the eight contests in both leagues, All Round and DTL, which ran from 7 October through to 3 March.

The All Round league consisted of 100 DTL, 100 English Skeet, 100 ABT and 100 Sport Trap. Ian Mullarkey led from start to finish to win, posting 100 (DTL); 95 (ABT), 97 (Skeet) and 96 (Sport Trap).

He finished up with 388ex-400, which put him ahead of Ted Philipson, Stuart Kitchen and Trevor Peel. Ian won the Bywell All Round Best Shot shield, presented by Allan Henry (pictured, right, with Ian).

The DTL league was hotly contested in each class over the eight competitions, with the best five scores to count. Ian Mullarkey continued his winning streak to take AA Class with 1481ex-1500, with Trevor Peel and Ted Philipson hot on his heels but having to settle for second and third positions respectively.

David Bell claimed A Class on 1453ex-1500, closely followed by Eric Atkinson and Dave Priestman.

It all came down to the final competition in B Class, Derek Ridley led most of the way through to the final day, when Bywell’s Roger Brown came in behind to take B Class victory. Cumbria’s J Douglas claimed C Class ahead of Northumberland’s D Brindle.

Thanks goes to Alan Henry who sponsored both leagues.
