FITASC in a day

The Clay Shooting company is well-known for its fantastic targets

The Clay Shooting Company has teamed up with Clay Shooting magazine and Promatic traps to bring FITASC fans an exciting prospect – 150 FITASC Sporting in a day.

The event is being hosted by the company’s flagship Westfield Shooting Ground, one of the top grounds in the country, especially for FITASC, on 30 September and 1 and 2 October.

Company founder and course-setter Steve Lovatt has seen the popularity of his courses soar over the past few years and for this “new system” FITASC event he has promised a great day’s shooting, with fantastic targets, great referees and a healthy prize fund.

Competitors will shoot for an £800 High Gun prize, as well as £400 for second and £200 for third, plus each lettered class winner gets a guaranteed £100 then £7 from every entry goes to each lettered class, from second down the ranks. Ladies, Juniors and Veterans get a guaranteed £100 first prize and £80 second.

The event will run over four layouts with four stands per layout, so there will be two layouts of 40 birds each and two of 35 each. The number of squads per day will be limited so time will not be an issue. With realistic entry fees of £85 and no overnight accommodation shooters have a relaxing and enjoyable day in glorious Cotswold countryside in store, without breaking the bank.

Steve Lovatt told us: “We have not had the chance to shoot 150 FITASC in one day in the last few years, if ever, and we certainly have all the requirements at Westfield, with excellent topography, first-class clubhouse, great referees, parking, reliable traps and equipment. The whole team are very excited about it – it’ll be a great weekend event!”
He added: “I have a great team around me, from my wife Allison on entries through to Jane the chef and a host of excellent refs and trap fillers who know what they’re doing and how to be professional.

“Westfield has a reputation as being ‘hard’ but I think this is more a myth now than a fact. The courses I set now, compared to several years ago, are more mature and have evolved into well thought out targets that will suit all abilities. Even through the winter months, when it can be ridiculously cold, we pull fantastic entries so I think those that are in the know, know where to come – but maybe I’m flattering myself, it could just be the log fire in the clubhouse and the amazing food Jane prepares that’s bringing everyone out!”

Steve thinks this event could be a regular FITASC favourite and pledged if the shooters wanted it to be part of their calendar his team would make it happen.

It is telephone entry only so pick up the phone sooner rather than later, but the entry fee doesn’t need to be paid up front. Start times are 9am, 9.30am, 10am and 10.30am.
