The burglary took place at an address in St Johns Road sometime between 26-28 January, with thieves breaking into the gun safe and stealing three .22 calibre target rifles along with 500 rounds of ammunition.

PC Christopher Madeley, who is investigating the offence, said: “We have been carrying out a number of enquiries as to their whereabouts prior to putting this information in the public domain and I would like to reassure the public we are doing all we can to trace them.

“There are currently three firearms and 500 rounds of ammunition which remain unaccounted for. These have the potential to pose a significant risk to the public and we are urging anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of these weapons to come forward straightaway.

“If you have any knowledge of where they might be, perhaps having overhead a conversation, or believe you know who might have them, please contact us immediately by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency, and quote the reference number 45170009617.

“If you don’t wish to speak to the police about this you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
