Beds Skeet County Champ, Geoff Bickers

The Bedfordshire County Skeet Championships were held on Sunday 8 June at Northampton Shooting Ground; Lee Bowditch reports on Bickers’ High Gun win.

Despite windy weather conditions, our County Champion this year is Geoff Bickers (95), from the Veterans class, who first won the title back in 1978 and last won in 1985, with four more titles in between; many congratulations to him. The Runner up this year was Stephen Smith 94.

The Ladies title was won by a newcomer to the Beds Skeet, Becky Elmore (83), winning the Jacquie Tobitt memorial trophy. Adding this achievement to her sporting title, Becky is having a great season so far.
The Junior title went to David Ferriman (92) and the Colt title went to another newcomer, Jake Janes with 75.
In my opinion, one of the top scores of the day had to be Jim Whinnett, who shot a brilliant 83 with a .410 upon his return after having a shoulder operation. The weather was clear and sunny but with a fairly constant right to left gusty wind, which caused a number of shooters to drop targets they normally wouldn’t with the low house dropping and the high house climbing it certainly made it interesting.

We had 19 entries this year, so many thanks to all who made the effort, and also thanks to Martine and the team at Northampton SG.
