Plans for the 21st Clay Shooting Classic are in full swing, as EJ Churchill Shooting Ground gears up for a 1,000-strong swarm of shooters eager for a shot at the biggest Sporting booty of the year – a record-breaking £35,000.

For the third year running shooters will descend on the idyllic 5,000-acre West Wycombe estate to try out great targets never seen before and this year’s event – from 5 to 8 June – sees new sponsor Zoli on board and some £15,000 worth of guns put up by Zoli distributor Edgar Brothers.

The overall High Gun will get their hands on a Zoli Z-Extra Sport worth £6,886; second place gets a Remington 1100 worth £1,700 and there are cartridge, cash and article prizes.

As all Classic stalwarts will know, there will be two 75-bird courses laid on – red and blue – with targets offering something for everyone and as well as the main shoot there will be a host of other events. Main sponsors Zoli will be on hand with a range of guns to try out, plus a 25-bird FITASC Sporting re-entry will be taking place over the whole event. New this year is a side-by-side category, with a Bremont watch going to the High Gun.

As has become tradition, the event kicks off with the Services Classic on 5 June but brand new this year is the Club Team Classic, which gives club teams a shot at a spanking new Promatic Falcon trap worth £1,200 and a simulated game day courtesy of EJ Churchill. The Services Classic will see members of the ambulance, fire and police services and the Royal Navy, Army and RAF battle it out for medals and cartridges courtesy of Eley Hawk.

Wednesday shooters button and score for themselves, so get a cheaper entry fee, although they are not allowed to enter the main Classic event.
